Offline Grocery Receipt Scan Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 8, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the Grocery Tracker mobile application published by The Invention Inn, including Google Play listings such as Offline Grocery Receipt Scan.
Unless this Privacy Policy says otherwise, the statements below describe the currently released Android version of the app.
Summary: The app is designed to work locally on your device. Receipt scanning, OCR, budgeting, inventory, recipes, weight tracking, and most other core features work without creating an account and without sending your receipt, grocery, inventory, recipe, budget, or weight-tracker data to our servers by default. Optional monetization features such as Google Play Billing and rewarded ads may require an internet connection when you choose to use them. Rewarded ads are served through Google Mobile Ads / AdMob and may involve Google processing technical advertising-related data.
1. Who we are
The app is provided by The Invention Inn.
Business / trade name: The Invention Inn
Business registration / KVK: 95877398
VAT ID: NL005176959B34
Website contact page: https://www.inventioninn.shop/pages/contact
If you have privacy questions or data-related requests, you can contact us through the contact page above.
2. Information the app processes
The app may process the following categories of information, depending on which features you use. Most of this information is stored locally on your device unless you choose to export, share, purchase, restore, or watch a rewarded ad.
Receipt and purchase data, such as store names, dates, product names, quantities, units, prices, totals, OCR text, and corrections you make during receipt review.
Receipt photos that you capture with the camera or import from your gallery. When receipt photo storage is enabled, the app stores optimized copies in app-private storage on your device.
Inventory, shopping, and recipe data, including pantry usage, shopping list items, recipe ingredients, linked products, store-specific groupings, and related settings.
Budget and insights data, including spending totals, price history, alert thresholds, and charts generated from your receipt history.
Weight tracker data, if you enable that feature, including weight entries, height, and goal weight. This may be considered health-related information.
Preferences and settings, such as language, theme, measurement system, notification preferences, scan settings, learned corrections, splash settings, scan quota counters, and other local app preferences.
Backup and export files that you choose to create, import, open, or share. Depending on the feature used, these files may include receipts, receipt images, OCR text, inventory-related data, recipes, weight history, learned corrections, and settings.
Optional monetization data, if you choose an in-app purchase or rewarded ad flow. Google Play Billing or Google Mobile Ads / AdMob may process technical, transaction-related, or advertising-related data needed for those features.
3. How the app gets this information
You provide information directly when you scan a receipt, import a photo, manually enter a receipt, create recipes, use the shopping list, or log your weight.
The app derives additional structured data locally from receipt images and OCR results, such as product rows, totals, units, price-per-unit values, and inventory events.
The app reads selected files only when you explicitly choose to import or open them.
4. How we use this information
The app uses your data to provide its features, including to:
scan, crop, review, and save receipts;
build your purchase history;
track inventory and shopping needs;
power recipes, budget views, insights, and price alerts;
remember local corrections and product mappings to improve later scans on your device;
create exports and backups when you request them;
provide optional weight tracking when you choose to use that feature; and show optional local notifications for budget, price, and spending-pattern alerts.
5. Offline use and network behavior
The app is designed to work offline for its core features. It does not require an account or cloud sync for receipt scanning, storage, budgeting, inventory, recipes, or weight tracking.
An internet connection is not required for the normal functioning of the app. Optional monetization features, such as a one-time Google Play purchase for unlimited scans, restoring that purchase through Google Play, or watching a rewarded ad for extra scans, may require an internet connection when you choose to use them.
The app does not require you to create a user account.
Cloud receipt-improvement uploads are intentionally disabled in this version. We do not run a live receipt-upload service for normal use of the app in this release. If this changes, we will update this Privacy Policy before or at the time the feature becomes available.
This version includes Google Play Billing for an optional one-time unlock and Google Mobile Ads / AdMob for optional rewarded ads. It does not include separate crash-reporting or analytics SDKs for normal app use.
6. Legal bases for processing
Where applicable under privacy laws such as the GDPR, we process app data that you enter or generate in the app to provide the functionality you request.
For core app features, such as receipt scanning, budgeting, inventory, recipes, shopping lists, local notifications, and weight tracking, processing is used to provide the features you choose to use.
For optional purchases, processing may be necessary to complete or restore a purchase through Google Play Billing.
For optional rewarded ads, Google Mobile Ads / AdMob may process technical advertising-related data when you choose to watch an ad.
Weight tracker data is processed only when you choose to use that feature and is stored locally on your device in the currently released version.
7. Future optional model-improvement feature
We may add a future feature that lets users explicitly opt in to help improve receipt-recognition or machine-learning features by sharing selected receipt photos and related training data.
That feature is not active in this version. If we add it in a future version:
it will be off by default;
you will need to turn it on yourself through a clear in-app opt-in setting;
normal app use will still be possible without enabling it;
we will describe what data may be shared for training at that time;
and we intend to provide a way to stop participating later and, where technically and operationally possible, request deletion of previously shared training photos or related uploaded training data.
8. Payments and extra scans
The app can offer optional monetization features such as a one-time purchase for unlimited scans and an optional rewarded-ad feature for extra scans.
If you choose the one-time unlock, the purchase and any purchase restore flow are handled through Google Play Billing.
If you choose to watch a rewarded ad for extra scans, the ad is served through Google Mobile Ads / AdMob.
Google Play Billing may process transaction-related information needed to complete, verify, or restore your purchase.
Google Mobile Ads / AdMob may process technical and advertising-related data, such as IP address, device identifiers including the advertising ID where available, app interaction data, ad interaction data, and diagnostic information, for purposes such as serving rewarded ads, analytics, advertising, and fraud prevention.
Google Play Billing and Google Mobile Ads / AdMob are provided by Google and are governed by Google’s own terms and privacy practices.
9. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell or rent your receipt, grocery, inventory, recipe, budget, or weight-tracker data.
We do not upload your receipt, grocery, inventory, recipe, budget, or weight-tracker data to our own servers in the currently released version.
Your app content may leave your device only in situations that you initiate, for example:
when you choose to complete or restore a Google Play purchase, in which case Google Play processes the purchase flow;
when you choose to watch a rewarded ad for extra scans, in which case Google Mobile Ads / AdMob may process ad-related technical information to serve that ad;
when you use Android’s share sheet to export or share a backup, receipt export, PDF, or other file with another app or service you choose;
or when you open an external website from the app, such as The Invention Inn website, in which case that external site operates under its own privacy practices.
If you share exported files through email, cloud storage, messaging apps, or other services, those services handle the shared files under their own privacy policies.
10. Permissions
The Android app currently requests the following permissions:
Camera, to capture receipt images.
Photos / media access, to let you import receipt photos from your device.
Notification permission, to show optional local alerts such as price alerts and budget notifications.
Advertising ID permission, where applicable, to support optional rewarded ads.
The app does not request location, contacts, microphone, SMS, or call log access.
11. Notifications
If you enable notifications, the app may generate local alerts on your device. These notifications can contain information such as a product name, store name, price change percentage, or budget warning.
Depending on your device settings, notification content may be visible on your lock screen.
12. Data storage
App data is primarily stored locally on your device using app-private storage, including a local database, local preferences, and locally stored image files.
Receipt photos saved by the app are stored in an app-managed folder on your device.
Backup and export files are stored or shared only when you choose to create, save, open, or share them.
13. Data retention and deletion
Receipt photos can be stored locally or automatically deleted after a retention period, depending on your settings.
You can remove app data by deleting records inside the app, disabling certain stored features, deleting exported files, clearing the app’s storage through Android settings, or uninstalling the app.
Because the currently released app does not create an account or upload your receipt database to our servers, most app data can be deleted directly on your device.
If you export or share files outside the app, you are responsible for deleting those copies from the other storage location, app, or service.
14. Security
We aim to keep data local where possible and to reduce unnecessary collection. However, no device or storage method is perfectly secure.
You should protect access to your device and be mindful when exporting or sharing files outside the app.
15. Children
The app is not directed to children and is not designed specifically for users under 16.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through accounts or direct online submissions in this version of the app.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us through: https://www.inventioninn.shop/pages/contact
16. External services
The app may interact with external services only when relevant features are used, including:
Google Play Billing, for optional in-app purchases and purchase restoration.
Google Mobile Ads / AdMob, for optional rewarded ads.
The Invention Inn website, if you open external website links from the app.
These external services operate under their own terms and privacy practices.
17. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when app features change, when optional services change, or when Google Play requirements change.
We will update the effective date above when we make material changes.
